MI-VINE is Michigan’s free and confidential Victim Information and Notification Everyday service. It provides custody and court-status information from participating agencies and supports registration for release, transfer, escape, and certain court events. Access is available through VINELink and by telephone at 800-770-7657. The service operates around the clock.
For Lapeer County, a county-jail registration can report events supplied by the Lapeer County Jail. MDOC data can support a general-release notification for a person in state prison. Those are different custody streams. A person leaving the county jail after bond is not an MDOC prisoner, while a person paroled from Thumb Correctional Facility has left prison but remains under state supervision.

Search One Lapeer County Inmate

For a state case, compare VINE with OTIS. OTIS can show Current Status, Date Paroled, Earliest Release Date, Maximum Discharge Date, and supervision location. For a county case, ask the jail for the release date, time, type, and receiving agency if that information is disclosable.
Register Lapeer County Release Alerts
Registration ties an alert to the matched person and the event chosen. Complete identity matching first. Registering against the wrong same-name record can cause an irrelevant alert and leave the intended event uncovered. Keep the PIN private but accessible to the registered person. If a call is missed or not acknowledged, the system may repeat it. A changed phone number, blocked automated calls, full inbox, or filtered email can prevent a notice from being seen even when the agency event was reported.
Note: Register each desired event separately and make sure the chosen phone can accept automated calls at any hour.
Lapeer County State-Prison Notices
General MDOC release notice through VINELink is not the complete state-prison victim-notification path. Direct victims who seek added parole notices, including hearing or decision information, should contact MDOC Crime Victim Services at 877-886-5401. This distinction matters for a person held at Thumb Correctional Facility or another Michigan prison.
The Michigan Parole Board may grant, deny, or defer parole. An earliest release date is the point when Board jurisdiction may begin under the controlling sentence, not a release appointment. Even a favorable Board action may require an approved placement and release coordination. A VINE alert or OTIS Date Paroled is stronger evidence that an exit event has actually been reported.
Court-event notifications can include status, disposition, or hearing changes where participating data exists. A court order explains legal authority, but it may not give the physical exit time. For that timestamp, use the county release sheet or MDOC record tied to the custodian.
Lapeer County VINE Custody Paths
A recent Lapeer County Jail booking belongs to the county path. Search the Michigan person record, confirm that the Lapeer jail is the reporting source, and register for the supported county event. If the person leaves the jail for the community, the supplied status may report release. If MDOC, another county, or another custodian accepts the person, the same disappearance from local custody has a different meaning.

U.S. Marshals pretrial custody may require the detention provider or federal case record, and ICE uses its own locator. A VINE no-match should never redirect a clearly local or state case into those federal systems without facts supporting that custodian.
Lapeer County VINE Limits
VINE is an event and notification service. It is not a certified archive. Feed timing follows the agency that supplies the data, so a newly processed release may not appear at the same moment the person leaves. Likewise, a current inmate can remain visible while staff complete the release process. A delayed status is a reason to verify, not to assume that an agency ignored a court order.
Federal BOP custody is outside MI-VINE’s county and state coverage. Use the official BOP Inmate Locator for a federal prisoner. ICE’s locator has a different, current-custody purpose. Neither should replace the sheriff or MDOC merely because VINE returned no match. The custodian must fit the search.
The Michigan Sex Offender Registry is also not a general release locator. It covers only people who are legally required to register. A registry result cannot describe every jail or prison release, and the lack of one says nothing about ordinary custody status.
Confirm Lapeer County VINE Events
Preserve the alert’s date, time, reporting agency, person identifier, and exact status wording. Then use the record made by that custodian.
